Overview
Great campground on the St. Croix River!
Bike Ride
It’s on the longer side from Minneapolis. You can take the Gateway State Trail, which is nice, and there are some rolling country roads that are pretty quiet.
Camping
Since I was there in the fall, it wasn’t crowded and was very pleasant
Why I would go again
- I would likely go as part of a trip further north if I felt that was a good distance to cover in a day
Why I would not go again
- I like some of the closer places along the St. Croix that have similar scenery.
Story: I camped with my buddies in early October, and it was an unseasonably warm upper 60’s and sunny. The park was terribly flooded after a year of record rains, and much of the trails were blocked. We proceeded anyway, progressively wading through deeper water (and taking off our clothes and holding them above us to keep them dry!) to hike through the trails. The water was frigid, and we never knew how deep it would go! It was so much fun. The ride home included strong headwinds, which made for one of the most exhausting (still fun!) rides I have done. One friend tripped at a rest stop and badly gouged his leg. We had to call and get him a ride home.
